Balkan trip

Insights and experiences from my trip through the Balkans

Brief description

Bike tour with 2 panniers: minimalist approach without 2 lowriders
Travel by Flixbus. Starting in Vienna, via Belgrade to Albania, and then back along the Adriatic coast. Final stop in Venice. Return journey from Venice to Stuttgart by Flixbus.

Impressions, insights and experiences

Summary

The roads, especially on the Adriatic route, were in some places borderline unusable.
A helmet is highly recommended equipment in cities, as many drivers are clueless and don't really factor cyclists into their driving. In cities, I always drove extremely defensively and often retreated to pedestrian walkways. Wild dogs – as you sometimes read – weren't a problem.
Many sights, highlights and natural attractions were omitted.
That's a shame. Too much distance for too little time.
What was learned:
If you plan a tour of approximately 3000 km in 30 days, you will spend most of your time in the saddle.
